Exploring the Sunken Gardens

This week we went to the sunken gardens in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was just beautiful, there was a small pond and water fall. The flowers were just lovely. We saw 5 foot Elephant ears, and the leaves were 4 foot in length, wow. There were asters that were covered with monarch butterflies! These gardens are just beautiful!

A Visit to the Orchard

This month we went to an apple orchard in Iowa. The trees were full of apples. Mom, Dad, Elliot, and I went threw a corn maze. We enjoyed apple slush and fried apple pie, the pie was really good!

Basket Weaving

I had a lot of fun at craft club making baskets with Becca, and Hanna. Weaving, and talking with friends the perfect combination! I always look forward to Craft club!

Hitchcock Nature Center

This week we visited a nature center in Iowa. We walked the Badger Ridge trail. Elliot found a walking stick, leaf bug, and a cool colored caterpillar. I saw a red headed woodpecker, a lizard, and a lot of swallow tail butterflies and monarch butterflies. We love the outdoors!

Playing at Walnut Grove

After we collected walnuts we all enjoyed time with our friends Becca, Spencer, and Hanna Rothfuss, and the Bettis family at the playground. Our favorite part was swinging on the big disks, and jumping off the edge into the sand. We got some good pictures of Spencer jumping into the sand!

Walnut Collecting

This weekend we collected walnuts with friends. We went to Walnut Grove Park and collected the many walnuts that had fallen from the great abundance of walnut trees. The second step after collecting them is to crush the green flesh on the outside, which is done by stepping and rolling them around with your foot. Inside is the green husk, there is a lot of yellow oil that stains your hands so we had rubber gloves on. The next step is to rinse them off and let them set for two weeks. More news later!
